Test Overview

Clinical Utility

This test can be used to help distinguish between Multiple Sclerosis (MS) and Neuromyelitis Optica Spectrum Disorders (NMOSD). A single autoantibody test is not diagnostic and should not be used to determine course of treatment. The test result must be evaluated with consideration of clinical presentation, patient history and other laboratory tests. Testing for AQP4 and MOG antibodies may be more sensitive in serum than in CSF. CSF testing should only be considered in patients receiving acute immunotherapy such as plasma exchange, and should be accompanied by a serum sample.
