Inhibin A is useful as an indicator of gonadal function, and ovarian response to hMg or to FSH stimulation. Inhibin A, produced by the placenta, is used along with other maternal serum biochemical markers to improve sensitivity of the screen for Down Syndrome risk.
This test was performed using the Beckman-Coulter Chemiluminescent Inhibin-A method that has been cleared by the FDA strictly for in vitro use as an aid in the diagnosis and monitoring of various hormonal reproductive disorders. The Inhibin-A test should not be used as a diagnostic procedure for granulosa cell tumors or hydatidiform moles without confirmation of the diagnosis by another established product or procedure. Values obtained with different assay methods or kits cannot be used interchangeably.
