Inhibin B is the major circulating inhibin in males. It is also detectable in women during menstrual cycles, particularly prior to ovulation. The measurement of inhibin B serves as an endocrine marker for monitoring male and female gonadal function.

Patient Preparation
Dietary supplements containing biotin may interfere in assays and may skew results to be either falsely high or falsely low. For patients receiving the recommended daily doses of biotin, draw samples at least 8 hours following the last biotin supplementation. For patients on mega-doses of biotin supplements, draw samples at least 72 hours following the last biotin supplementation.

Values obtained from different assay methods cannot be used interchangeably. Inhibin B levels, regardless of value, should not be interpreted as absolute evidence of the presence or absence of disease.
