Collagen Cross-Linked N-Telopeptide (NTx), Random Urine

Test ID: COLCLNPEP U

Test

Aliases/Synonyms

Ntelopeptide

Method

Chemiluminescence

Report Includes

N-Telopeptide; Creatinine

Specimens

Urine

Clinical Utility

NTx is useful to assess bone resorption in patients with metabolic bone disease. The test is also useful in monitoring therapy to slow or halt osteoporotic bone loss. A decline of 30% or more of NTx over a six-month period suggests effective therapy.

Results

Name Units Reference Range Conversion Factor
N-Telopeptide, Random Urine nM BCE/mM creat
  • Male:
  • 18 y - 29 y: 12 - 99
  • 30 y - 59 y: 9 - 60
  • Female:
  • Premenopausal: 4 - 64
Results are primarily used for monitoring the response to therapy. A value within the premenopausal reference range does not rule out osteoporosis nor the need for therapy.
Creatine, Random Urine mg/dL
  • ≤ 6 months: 2 - 28
  • 7 - 11 months: 2 -31
  • 1 y - 2 y: 2 - 110
  • 3 y - 8 y: 2 - 130
  • 9 y - 12 y: 2 - 160
  • > 12 y (Male): 20 - 320
  • > 12 y (Female): 20 - 275
