Handling Information
Submit supernatant from 2 mL whole blood (heparin) precipitated with 4 mL cold 0.8 mol/L perchloric acid at the bedside. Store and send frozen.
Important Note: Because this test is available for whole blood or CSF, and because both specimen types must be acid-precipitated and submitted as supernatant aliquots, it is very important that you identify on the requisition the original specimen type processed, i.e., whole blood.
Stability
If the specimen thaws, it is unsuitable for analysis.
