 In this foundational lecture, Dr. Jones will discuss the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal, or HPA-axis, which plays an important role in stress response. Dr. Jones will discuss the components of the HPA-axis (hypothalamus, pituitary gland, adrenal glands) and the hormones released by each of these structures during the stress response.

 

Presentation objectives include:

  • Assessing the central peripheral systems
  • Recognize the key components of the HPA-axis
  • Discuss the physiology of the adrenal glands
  • Identify the role of cortisol
  • Explain the importance of DHEA and the HPA-axis
