Test Overview
Clinical Utility
Rifampin (RIF) is a first-line anti-tuberculosis (TB) and antimicrobial agent used in combination therapy for Mycobacterium tuberculosis infections, nontuberculous mycobacterial (NTM) infections, and certain bacterial infections such as Staphylococcus aureus endocarditis. Due to its complex pharmacokinetics and significant interpatient variability, therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM) is recommended to optimize efficacy while minimizing toxicity and drug resistance.
