C-Reactive Protein High Sensitivity (hsCRP), Serum/Plasma

Test ID: CRPHS
Orderable by Ontario ND

Test

Method

Immunoturbidimetry

Platform

Beckman

Report Includes

C-Reactive Protein High Sensitivity (hsCRP)

Specimens

Serum; Plasma (Li Heparin or EDTA)

Clinical Utility

CRP is a nonspecific marker of inflammation and a variety of conditions other than atherosclerosis may cause elevated levels. Estimations of inflammation should be based on the changes in CRP values from multiple measurements and used in conjunction with the values of other cardiac risk indicators. This high sensitivity assay may be used to evaluate cardiac risk.

  • Cardiovascular Risk Assessment:
  • Low Risk: Less than 1
  • Average Risk: 1 - 3
  • High Risk: Greater than 3
  • Over 10 mg/L is consistent with acute phase response to inflammation.
