Test Overview
Clinical Utility
Fecal calprotectin level can be increased due to the migration of neutrophils into the intestinal lumen following inflammatory changes in the intestinal mucosa. Fecal calprotectin is useful in differentiating inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), in monitoring IBD treatment and in detecting IBD relapse. Fecal calprotectin can be also increased in enteric infections and NSAID enteropathy. These conditions should be taken into consideration in interpreting the results. Please correlate results with clinical and other laboratory findings.
