FIT testing for uninsured patients

This webpage provides information for health-care providers ordering the Fecal Immunochemical Test (FIT) through In-Common Laboratories (ICL) for patients who are not eligible for ColonCancerCheck, Ontario’s free colon cancer screening program.

More information about program eligibility can be found on the Ontario Health (CancerCareOntario) website.

Please visit iclabs.ca/FIT for details on ColonCancerCheck.

Please note: FIT tests for uninsured patients require a valid provider (Medical Doctor, Nurse Practitioner or Naturopathic Doctor ) referral. Patients may not self-refer for FIT testing through ICL.

How to access FIT at ICL

To order FIT testing for uninsured patients, you will need an ICL account. To get set up, please contact the ICL client care team at info@iclabs.ca.

What is required

  • An ICL account
  • A custom ICL FIT requisition for uninsured patients, which will be provided to you by the ICL client care team upon account set up

How it works

Once your ICL account for uninsured patients is set up, you can begin ordering private-pay FIT kits by faxing ICL your completed custom requisition to our main fax line at 416-385-1957

ICL will ship the FIT kits to the provided patient address. Kits must be completed by the patient and mailed back to ICL using the return Canada Post envelope provided in the issued kit.

Please note, your clinic will be billed for the associated testing fees. ICL does not currently offer direct patient-pay services for uninsured FIT testing.

FIT tests for uninsured patients require a valid provider (Medical Doctor, Nurse Practitioner or Naturopathic Doctor ) referral. Patients may not self-refer for FIT testing through ICL.
