Clinical Utility
This is a screening test for X-linked adrenoleukodystrophy. Affected males will have elevated parameters. Heterozygous females usually have elevated parameters, but they are often in the upper normal range. Other peroxisomal diseases may also be detected by this test (elevated parameters).
