Patient Preparation

For 48 hours prior to blood collection, diet should be free of avocado, banana, coffee, tomato, plum, eggplant, hickory nut, walnut, pineapple, and mollusks. A diet low in tryptophan is required. Patients should also abstain from aspirin, corticotrophins, MAO inhibitors, phenacetin, catecholamines, reserpine, and nicotine.
